I'm curious if anyone else's Fiesta has this flaw, and if yours did what would you do?
The flaw is an area of the front bumper underneath the driver's side headlight. The paint job (lime squeeze) has a rough finish here. There isn't a colour difference, but you can feel the difference and you can see it from a distance if you know what to look for. It isn't shiny and smooth like the rest of the vehicle, it is a rougher matte finish.
I asked my local dealer's service department about this. The body shop manager looked at it and took some photos to send to Ford. Ford authorized the body shop to repaint it if I choose. However, the body shop manager told me that no body shop can do as good a paint job as the factory. So, it is conceivable that the "fix" would be worse than the problem.
Not that it is a huge problem. The bumper is plastic, so it's not like it's going to rust. But, I do worry that the paint might not be as thick in this area so several years from now it might peel. Or that something was wrong with the paint mixture and maybe it'll fade at a different rate than the rest of the car so it'll look bad years from now. (I do plan to drive this for at least 10 years).
I am also a bit miffed that none of the Ford inspectors at the factory or dealership caught this before selling it to me, and now the only "solution" they're offering might be worse than the flaw.
At this point my plan is to wait to make a decision until the bumper to bumper warranty is close to expiring. I anticipate that nothing will have changed between now and then ("then" being about 2.5 years from now), so I will still be unsure of whether or not to have it repainted. What would you do? Thanks in advance for any advice.
